Gift Registration

Maryland titled vehicles only, vehicles titled in any other state do not qualify as a gift when registering in Maryland

Between parent and child including stepchildren, husband and wife

Requirements

  1. Title and lien release (if it applies)
  2. Registration card
  3. Maryland driver’s license or ID card
  4. Valid insurance card of the vehicle
  5. If last names are different proof of relationship is needed
    1. Marriage license
    2. Birth certificate connecting all the names
    3. Letter administration and death certificate if the person giving the vehicle is deceased
    4. Exempt from taxes, no inspection is required
    5. Tag transfer fees apply and depend on when the plates expire

Between grandparent and grandchild, sibling to sibling

Requirements

  1. Title and lien release (if it applies)
  2. Registration card (if transferring plates)
  3. Maryland driver’s license or ID card
  4. Maryland Inspection
  5. Valid insurance card of the vehicle
  6. If last names are different proof of relationship is needed
    1. Marriage license
    2. Birth certificate connecting all the names
    3. Letter administration and death certificate if the person giving the vehicle is deceased
    4. Tax attempt, title fees and new plate fees apply
